Baby waiting

Wow I am a slacker! I have neglected to keep you all updated on the rest of pregnancy. I don't know why. I haven't been super occupied with a job or anything. Just a bit self consumed with preparing for Amelia's arrival. I swear this girl is spoiled before she has even arrived. :)
To back track to how our Christmas vacation went..it was great! We loved seeing all our family and friends while we were there. I felt a bit consumed with doing a lot of family things though. I wish I could of had a little more different Christmas traditions with my parents than the hubby's, but his mother is pretty set on having it a certain way. Which is fine that's what they like. I am open to anything. I was very appreciative of her hosting in her house along with my mother the baby shower for Amelia and I. I said keep it low key, but of course they had to out do themselves with decorations and food. :) I miss my mother's food. Lucky I get to see her and my dad in a week to visit for Amelia's arrival.
Also, our small group bible study here threw us a little baby shower. They are very sweet people. Non of them are military so it's nice to get involved with locals and get their perspective from those that have lived here for a while.
Well, tomorrow is my due date and no sign of labor quite yet. Some things like tightening and small cramps make me think I am going to start labor, but everyone describes it as "oh you will know." That my body will let me know. I have been praying that she may come this weekend so I can avoid the scheduled induction I have Tuesday night. By then she would be 4 days overdue so she will evicted by then. I never really thought I would get to 40 weeks, but guess my body is slowly getting ready. Last time I was 70% effaced (thinned out) and only 1/2 cm dilated. At least I am thinning out, but decided to give myself until my scheduled induction to see if my body will progress more. I am happy that the doctor does options like a balloon that mechanically dilates you versus a medication that goes inside and can't come out to ripen the cervix. I may need pitocin, but it would be awesome if once they broke my water my body would do it all on its own.
39weeks
Interesting thing about this pregnancy, hubby has been sick most of the pregnancy with cold almost every month since we got here. It really sucked for him, but glad he was taking the illness for me. I didn't get by without a cold last month though. Ugh not being able to take any meds except Tylenol was not fun.
35 weeks

Well, trying to stay positive and be patient that she will come soon. I better get some walking in and more nesting done by cleaning the house. Next time I update I will be holding our baby girl. :)

Getting ready

As the time approaches to leave for vacation, we are getting ready (mostly me doing laundry :)) to get our suit cases packed and hubby finishing up last minute work things. I am very excited to have him off for these days. Although, it's spent with family and can be crazy a times it's nice to be back home where things are familiar. I get so sad to see here we don't have fresh produce or grocery stores that stock things so I can still eat certain paleo dishes. Sometimes when we are up for it we venture to Whole Foods two hours away in Birmingham. It is hard to buy so much because your grocery bill can really get high and then we have to carry a cooler with ice and come straight back after that.
Going back to AZ does mean I get to enjoy a good Sonoran hot dog, maybe some carne asada tacos and some damn good salads! While we are there all my hubby's side of the family in terms of siblings will be there. There was slight drama that his brother and wife decided to stay in a hotel, but honestly it's probably better for the bathroom situation. 7 people to one bathroom eek not going to work! Their house is bigger than my parents because my parents live in a 2 bedroom apartment they own. They next day we are up and going we are visiting my folks and planning later that evening to see some Christmas lights that are decorated all over a neighborhood. They really good all out! It's fun to think we are freezing in AZ LOL and walking with our hot cocoa! My blood may have thicken a bit being out here and definitely won't be as cold with our little girl keeping me warm in my belly!
Another happening besides the Christmas eve and Christmas day tradition will be baby girl's baby shower! I am very grateful for my mother in law to let us do it in her home. I am also grateful my mom is taking care of the food. I was annoyed she invited tons of her friends, some which I have never really met. But she justifies that's okay they will get your gifts. I didn't want segregation with the Mexican ladies and the non Mexican not cool. That's what happens when you have a full blown Mexican mother she wants to take over and believe it's for her the shower. I will just sit back and eat. :) Best thing a preggers person can do. It should be fun overall I think.
Just to back track a bit, last month we had a spouse appreciation day where we went in our husbands' squadron to check things out, see the flight line, play in the simulator. It wasn't as eventful as they wished because it was raining, but nice to see other spouses and spend time with the hubby for a change. I was so hoping for a high speed taxi in the plane, but budget cuts didn't permanent that. :( boo.
Anyways, the simulator was cool..I did pretty good in the air flying and was ready to land and thought it was going to go well, but misheard my hubby say something and I put the nose down so much I crashed. Yup flying isn't my thing! Leaving it to him!
Sometime today going to help with my church small group shower this lady with a shopping spree. I don't feel uncomfortable doing it, but wonder how many others will join. I don't know what to say to her. Guess being myself is the best thing. Hope she enjoys it!
Well my updates will be very random during our Christmas vacation. Toodles for now!

Pregnancy, move, Thanksgiving and soon Christmas vacation!

Time flies! Also, with time flying I get wrapped up in life and forget that I made a promise this year to keep at it with blogging especially with my paleo journey and life journey. Anyways, I am back!!
A lot has happened! We found while we were still Texas that were expecting a baby! It is silly to look back and see how freaked out I was about things because I didn't get pregnant on the first try. Ladies, try not to obsess or schedule your lovemaking with your spouse it will make it stressful and harder to conceive.
So how did I find out you ask? Well, after a night out of going to a 80s cover band concert and drinking a lot--oops, the next day I just had this inclination that I needed to take a pregnancy test just for kicks at 9pm at night when hubby was asleep for an early flight the next morning. I took a test that a friend gave me, one of those dip sticks that work most of the time. I came back after the prescribed time and had two lines for positive and thought huh this thing is broken, but then was freaking out. I called my best friend and she said, "you go straight to Walgreens right now and get the sticks to pee on." Well I did and chugged a bunch of water to the point of almost barfing. Took 4 tests all positive!! You can imagine how hard it was to not say anything to the husband when he asleep and I wanted to be completely sure after seeing a doctor. The next day, I went to the doctor and had the test and results called back by the nurse confirming I was pregnant! The cutest way to announce to Alex was to display a picture of the pee sticks as his wall paper on his computer when he got home. He usually checks his computer and when he got home he didn't right away, so I asked him to look something up on his computer for me and then he saw it and said, "Is this for real!?" Then the rest was history! We are so happy! Also, found out a while back we are having a baby girl! Her name will be Amelia Isabelle Cuevas!
We knew our time in Texas was temporary so we had to leave by the end of July into August and miss our crossfit gym there. It has not been the same here because the gym we thought would be like crossfit has just been more a joke. The owner is great and knowledgable but can't be everywhere. He is the only one watching form and the other trainers aren't. So I was working out there up until beginning of November when I was doing heavy deadlifts (for a pregger lady) and  must of did something wrong with my form because after that my hip didn't feel right and just had sharp shooting pain on my right leg/hip area. After a couple days I decided to use a chiropractor for help since were traveling in a couple days and wanted to not limp around. They fixed me and apparently I had shortened right leg since it was misaligned. Happy that is all better, but not working out so much. :(
We spent our Thanksgiving with my hubby's brother and wife in MD. That was fun..we spent a good 5 days there. They took us to Washington D.C. and that was fun to see although freezing cold. Hoping to get back there to actually see more museums next time.
We are getting things ready here as we can for Amelia's arrival in March. Still waiting on the in laws to get us the crib so our nursery can be complete. Probably will be a shower or Christmas present we assume.
I never mentioned how difficult was to get a job here and yes I applied even before I knew I was pregnant. Out of the 50 positions I applied for at the hospital, two interviews I got, but no one hired me. It's sad because now it's a year since I graduated and by the time baby girl is here will be a year since license with no job. I really need to get back to into it. Hoping by late summer I will feel comfortable to seek employment even with a little one.
Our plans for Christmas are to fly out AZ (home) to see our family and friends for the festivities! We are having a baby shower while there too! :) Will update as I can and not wait 6 months!

Still on the face of the planet

Happy 6 years to us!
I am sorry it's been a while. I just couldn't get to writing in this blog since I am have been super occupied with being awesome at crossfit! Just kidding I am not awesome at it..I have a lot of work to do before I can declare myself that. LOL I actually did just have a nice long weekend with my hubby celebrating our anniversary with a nice dinner at Fogo de Chao (Brazilian steak house=meat overload) and watching Star Trek, but the main event of the weekend was going to the crossfit regional games! I am over the moon excited and pumped after watching all those amazing men and women lift, push, pull  through that competition. It was so inspiring to get better and just being in the community it was just like being back in the box where everyone is cheering on the last to finish. That's what I love about crossfit; yes you get to cheer on and congratulate the first person finishing, but that last one is the one you are yelling with all your might to pick up that bar and keep fighting until the timer stops. We also splurged a bit on buy all this crossfit clothing. It's once a year so hey it's alright.
What else is going well it was memorial day Monday, so we did a WOD called Murph that is starts with a 1 mile run then 100 pull ups, 200 push ups, 300 squats and ends with 1 mile run. It commemorates service men and women that have served and lost their lives, but story about Lt. Murphy that loved to this work out and died getting a radio signal while insurgents fired at him.
Back tracking we went up to visit our friends who are living north of us about 3 hour drive and as well got to see friends that were in town from Arizona. It was a big reunion! So that was all great and fun. I sure miss my friends that I could just hang with after going to church. Church is not the same here especially when it's harder to get plugged in when we are only here for a short period of time for the hubby's training. We have to let our apartment complex know soon we have orders for the next place where we will be more long term stationed. It should go smoothly letting them since they have a military clause in the lease. I just don't look forward to moving into our home in the heat of August.
So the paleo zone challenge is still going and there has been slip ups of us eating out with friends after regionals like pizza :( We are getting back on track and hoping to get some decent results. I don't need to win or anything just improvements in the waist line. I sometimes get so tired of cooking everything from scratch that I won't to throw the towel in, but must be patient and as well not fall off having grains again in my life. My stomach issues have been at bay so crossing my fingers that continues. I am still on quest for a job in nursing when we move to the next state here in two months. Crossing my fingers something good comes my way and I can remember things I learned in nursing school. I should just get my hands on a med/surg book as a review.
Well I gotta run will update soon again! Toodles!

Pale Zone challenge and Life according to me

So like I said posts would probably be on the weekly side. So what has happened since I last wrote, well I have been busting myself at the gym doing WODs like 6 days in a row. That was a bit too much for my body that I need to learn to break it up. Mother's day was here and unfortunately my mother doesn't live here so couldn't celebrate with her. I sent flowers though and she enjoyed that. She told me that my dad has macular degeneration in one eye. That means the central vision in his eye is going bad. It's not reversible, but there are theories/pills/practices to slow the progression. So I am hoping this progression is very slow for him and he doesn't go blink in that eye any time soon. My mother doesn't really tell me things until a bit later and what is even more annoying is my own father won't tell me if something is wrong with him. He believes nothing can be wrong and I understand he doesn't want me to worry, but it upsets me they don't trust me to tell me these things. My mom is under the impression my dad will live forever and not to prepare for anything that could happen to him. My father is 79 years old and pretty good shape considering this eye problem and now a bit of a hip problem. Still life throws curve balls and you never want can happen. God could take him anytime he wants and she thinks all is dandy. I just hope financially she will be okay, but I know that will be a struggle and burden I will have to carry. I am not heartless nor do I feel unable to help it's just now the way most late 20 year olds have to deal with their parents. Anyways, I will move on to something else. Like how we visited Sea World and I got to feed dolphins! :) It was nice to get out and do it although I got sunburned. We even went on a ride and got soaked.
At our gym we are doing a paleo zone challenge. This is different than the last challenge done back in AZ because this time we still include all the paleo way of eating, but we measure out how much food we eat. I am fine and dandy about eating paleo, but it's hard to grasp this idea of measuring every thing I eat. I just feel it's so tedious, but I am doing it the best I can. We also will be submitting food diaries weekly to one of the coaches. I guess that keeps us accountable too.
Today was day 3 of this challenge and I guess I didn't eat enough for my snack this afternoon that during the workout and after I was shaking and started hyperventilating. Thankfully hubby was there to calm me and also one of the coaches gave me a bar to munch on as I recovered.

I made awesome mexican style burgers thanks to paleomg.com book! In my pictures there is the book and also the book Gather which is pretty awesome. It was some great ways to entertain paleo style and also just super neat recipes like General Tsao chicken!
I am running low on time before I turn into a pumpkin so just wanted to update this blog and hope the week well goes well. Good night!

Why Hello

Dear Lord! It's been so long I was forgetting I had a blog or how to get into it. Haha Don't worry I'm back! So lots has happened! Still in Texas for my hubby's training and enjoying the friendships we have formed here quickly and the time I have with my love. It's nice to have the time to read and catch up on things that I couldn't when I was in nursing school. We aren't here long enough for me to get a job..although I have attempted to get a seasonal job at several retail places with no luck. Boo! Oh well more time to hang out and do lots of crossfit!
So my parents came to visit about two weeks ago and that was actually fun! I thought my parents would be total bored or not enjoy it, but they loved the Riverwalk and all the tourists things. I think since my dad is getting older than he is already..he feels he should branch out to do more things and my mom realizing that I don't live 30 minutes away has to get out of her comfort zone to visit me even if that means getting on a plane. She enjoyed the hispanic festival that was going on and just being in another city besides back home. I worry about my parents well my dad is 79 and age is starting to catch with him. If you saw him you would think he is younger, but he has cataracts now and some hip problems so that slowing him down. My mom has had so many health problems for a 47 year old and can only hear with one ear with a hearing aid. I always encourage her to take a class in sign language and that I would too, but she doesn't really pay attention to my advice. That was a random rant about my parents lol. Anyways, now I am away again I just hope they are okay and knowing them they keep things from me and that is something I don't like.
Yup my WOD!
Wow I got guns haha
Lets see what else is going on..well the crossfit gym we are part of totally rocks! The owners are so supportive of their clients and don't mind getting to know them. They are just very down to earth, but with experience on how to do WODs correctly. They are so awesome as well for creating a birthday WOD named "Karla" which was hell and everyone totally loved me for that! Yeah right! I really get along with this girl Tasha who works next door at the tanning place. She is just super outgoing and fun to be around. She invited Alex and I to go two steppin' at a country bar and boy was that different! We thought we had it down with our little old simple side to side two step. We were wrong! The dance floor was a circle around one of the bars and people were dancing fast like horses around the race track! So yeah we need some classes. The only thing that pissed me off was when we tried to dance at our pace some older guy pushes Alex to notion him to go on faster ahead. Jeez! The nerve of that guy. Anyways, I guess people were just too frustrated that we didn't have 100%. It's suppose to be fun not dancing with the stars.
So this weekend hubs and I are doing the paleo-zone challenge with cf gym. I only have done challenge and it was whole 9 30 days challenge. This one I guess is same types of food, but measured out for maximal results. I am hoping for some great results. I do admit that I have had a hard time with snacking while I am here. With snacking it's been on potato chips and too much dark chocolate. I just eat crap when I am bored or watching a show. I need to just drink lots of water when I get that urge so I fill up on that. I am hoping this challenge will motivate me with the people around us. I have still been cooking paleo with some gluten free grains. Tonight made a paleo dessert called Chocolate mousse with bananas from paleomg.com She does amazing treat recipes and was dying to try this one. Let's say my hubby wasn't talking from the time he took his first bite until the end because he was busy engulfing his tasty mousse! He loved it! :) I'm glad it worked out. Sometimes when you see or do a recipe it never comes out like their pictures or the way the person describes, but this one was perfect.
Well, I better head to bed soon. Well update soon again! Later~

P.S. I got a beta fish for my birthday from my hubby!!

Long post beware..paleo talk and fiesta talk!

I know I know! I haven't written in a long time on here. I kept getting out of my routine and forgetting. It's not like I have job here too so I don't know what that is about. I mean I run errands a lot, read, go to crossfit practically everyday. It's nice to have the hubby home early on most days.
So what is new, well like I said don't have a job yet. Debating whether I should give up on a nursing job period while I am here. I just should work at the tanning place next to where I crossfit lol. I saw their sign they are hiring, but kind of hesitant about it. No reason in particular, but wondering where my temporary fit would be that I would somewhat enjoy getting some extra cash. Maybe I can waitress again! NOT! I did that all through my early 20s not again!
Cowboy at Fiesta
Anyways, so this festival is called Fiesta has begun last week and lasts until the end of this weekend. I still don't understand the origin much, but it's very multicultural (very hispanic mostly) with food, music and carnivals. It just means traffic is insanely busier than it already is around here. I like it here, but boy is the traffic unpredictable. Do people work? How can there be so much traffic at 1pm in the afternoon.
So last weekend, we didn't do much on Friday, but rather try this restaurant in the little historic town nearby because we wanted steak we thought it would be good. Turned out it was super expensive and Texas Roadhouse would of been better than their food. It was probably so darn expensive for their "view." Well, since I ate half my dinner and felt disgusted we decided to join some friends from Alex's training class for dinner (dessert for us) at the Lion and Rose, some British pub. We have been there before so it was pretty standard. I definitely should of not cheated with having creme bleu cheesecake :( I felt so sick that whole night. Sometimes it's just not worth having that cheat meal when you eat paleo.
The next day was pretty fun. We just hung out in the morning and some errands. Later that evening we went to dinner and a show with another AF couple. We saw a symphony orchestra perform alongside mariachi and dancers. It was quite interesting and all the performers did great! They had some lungs some of those singers, especially this 11 year old boy who had us girls swooning over him. Ah man this dating years are going to be interesting! lol
Sunday was pretty relaxed. We did make it out to brunch at this gluten free cafe we had found when first moved here and I was able to have a waffle which has been a very long time since I have had one! We also took our doggies on a walk at this giant park that has tons of open fields, dog park, soccer fields and trails.
Paleo eating has been going for the most pretty well. We don't eat out all the time like before and make an effort to make all meals during the week and even weekends with occasionally outings to new restaurants once or 2x a week. We are also loving the crossfit gym we have joined and it feels like family instantly. Everyone is very welcoming and cheers everyone on as they finish. Makes it easier to get through these workouts.
I don't know if I will post a blog everyday, but I will keep you all updated on my progress with crossfit and eating right. I do have my parents flying in Friday to visit, which is super exciting! I want to show them downtown and different places, so crossing my fingers the weather cooperates! Well, I better get going. Have a great day!!
